Geely Aviation Manufacturing Base is located in Wuhan Economic Development Zone, with a total area of about 267,000 square meters. It integrates the research and development, production, assembly, testing and delivery of urban passengers aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to Geely, the base has China’s first aviation aircraft composite material automated production line, which can save more than 60% of labor costs compared to traditional manual aviation manufacturing production lines, and can achieve an annual output of more than 1,000 composite material industrial-grade drones with a wingspan of more than 4 meters.
Xu Zhihao, CEO of Geely Technology Group, said, “The Geely Aviation Manufacturing Base will make full use of Geely’s mature supply chain system, manufacturing system and abundant supplier resources to form obvious efficiency, quality and cost advantages. We will transform and upgrade Wuhan’s industry.”
Aerofugia is carrying out the new aviation strategy of Geely Technology Group, and provides the new aviation cross-border ecological overall solution in fields such as emergency rescue and aerial surveying and mapping. Its XC-25 double-headed dragon drone has participated in “721” Henan rainstorm rescue, Shenzhou 12, Chang’e 5 return cabin search and other missions.
China’s general aviation industry has entered a period of rapid development, according to Geely. And Wuhan emerges as China’s general aviation industry center with a leading industry cluster.
China’s automotive giant Geely is directly involved in the drone industry since 2017, when the group bought the US-based flying car company Terrafugia Inc., founded in 2006 by a team of five MIT graduates. In September 2020, Terrafugia announced its merger with Chinese drone developer AOSSCI to form Aerofugia Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Geely also invested in Germany-based Volocopter in September 2019.
